Patan Durbar Square

Nepal (2014)

First what are Durbars Squares? In English it is Royal Squares built by majesties of Nepal or India. In Kathmandu Valley they have 3 Durbars. Patan Durbar Square is built by Malla Kings of Lalitpur, it sounds like a preface for a fantasy novel except this is true. A very well preserve ancient royal palace. The entire palace is rich in architectural wonder and ornamented in every corners with stone sculptures. From Thamel it was a just a 6km ride but traffic was heavy, not because of cars but by cows crossing. So we have to wait until they pass the streets. A year later in 2015, Kathmandu was hit by a strong earthquake and many parts of the palace was in ruin. It was part of UNESCO heritage site so there were international aid to help rebuild the place.
