Kathmandu

Nepal (2014)

The kingdom of Nepal also known as Gorkha Empire, yes most famous group mercenaries hired by the British Empire in the 19th century is a landlock country located in the Himalayas. Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal with a population of 1 million is also know as the city of temples.   I stayed in Thamel, where most tourist are staying. I indeed like the energetic vibe of the city. They have a religious fervor that does not intimidate, I like that ambiance. Often times I would have dinner on the roof top, it’s cozy specially during the night. Like every places I go, I always try the local cuisine, dalbhat is nice long plain rice with lentil soup, kinda minty, and all sorts of curry. You could never go wrong with a cury because with every bite there are million things happening in your taste bud, spicy, sweet, sour, salty and savory all at the same time. Closest I can think of is Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine, a bit of Thai and Malay too. The oddest thing among so many odd things I noticed there was the Nepal flag, it is not rectangular like the normal flag but a two right triangle atop each other style, like those in the flags of cavalry. One other fascinating tradition they do was the worship of a living goddess they call, Kumari.
