Kayan Tribes Long Necks

Mae Hong Son (2013)

The Kayan tribes are group of ethno Tibetan-burmese from Myanmar. The Thai government allowed the refugees to stay in a small town in Mae Hong Son, border area from Myanmar. They are very distinct group of people wearing brass coils on their necks, traditionally worn from Childhood to adulthood. Besides a things of beauty it also as I also serve a practical purpose, protection from tiger bites. Myanmar is one of the few countries in the world that still have tigers in the wild. I am not sure if this is a fact but I think all traditions comes from practical purpose. For the tribes to be self sufficient they open it for tourist for revenue. I have a habit of collecting hand-made wooden sculptures from the locals. So I got one from an old lady and few scarf I gifted to my daughter.
