Pang Oung

Mae Hong Son, Thailand (2013)

Pang Oung Lake is a spectacular, beautiful area, some 40 km away from the city of Mae Hong Son, very close to the authentic Chinese village Ban Rak Thai. It is picturesque, lush high-terrain lake with gardens, pear & persimmon trees & rafting. I was told by the guide in Pai to wake up 4 am so that we can witness the sunrise at the peak of the plateau, then head to the lake. It was freezing cold morning, good thing I bought a second hand jacket at the night market. A town elderly was hot roasted sweet potato which I can smell from half a kilometer away from the lake. I tried one, taste like very sweet kamote. Got around the camp area and talk to other tourist, they too enjoy the lush green jungle. Just a shout away, pretty much a loud shout over the other side of the lake is Myanmar. We went to small Chinese village, which I think spoke a dialect spoken in Yunnan province.
