Swayambhu is located atop a hill in Kathmandu Valley. The car I rented gladly waited for us outside the complex down the hill. At the entrance we were greeted by temple monkeys, a lot of them strolling around and waiting to be fed by bread. There’s a large stupa at the center of the hill. Built in the 5th century CE, it is a sacred to Buddhist pilgrimage, second only to Boudhanath. Inside the complex are variety of temples, shrines, shops, restaurants and hostels.
