Pashupatinath Temple
Kathmandu, Nepal (2014)
Pashupatinath Temple is a UNESCO world heritage site and famous for its sacred Hindu temple complex located at the Bagmati river. The entire complex was littered by cows from the rivers to the stone bridges. I’ve met a few Sadhu holy men seated on many temples. One interesting holyman, was holding what seem a shredded leaves turned out to be tobacco, he said it’s his dedication. I respect all men with this kind of devotion. Around the afternoon a family gathered around a stone platform beside the river and started putting blocks of wood. I thought I would be encroaching the family saying goodbye to their love ones but it was very different from the Christians. cremation is a peaceful ceremony and community gathering for the parted one. I stayed here till sunset and witness the traditional music and the lamps lighting the temples, unfortunately I have used all my camera battery and wasn’t able to capture the solemn moment. Overall this is my favorite places I visited during my stay.
