Product Sketches

I sketch a lot, it’s one way for me to get that creative juices out of my head. For products, I actually do a lot of quick doodling while discussing with client, this way I can flesh out the idea from the client and also give my input. There are many ways to design a product. One is from a set of documentation request, design from set of rules and requirements. Other times, from brain storming, I love this process because this is problem solving as a team, collaboration. On rare occasion a spur of the moment design, perhaps while in shower I would think of an idea. The sketches here are drawn on paper with pencil and the rest are drawn in Sketchbook Pro. I am all about productivity so once I am done with the quick sketch which I literally drawn in few minutes to less than an hour, I would upload in the cloud and share to client. This way I can get feedback quickly and then refine the design. As it is on my sketches I do several interpolation of ideas for clients to pick, design aesthetic is really arbitrary. Some clients are picky, some are engage and some don’t even care. I like the client that are engage because they become part of the process. On more occasion client’s don’t really know what they want until I drew it on paper. Design is a long process, one has to be really patient. 25 years in design field, being patient is just a second nature to me. Just a reminder, a prerequisite for most of the design, collaboration and commission I do, I require that we sign a contract; a simple statement, agreement and understanding that includes the ownership and compensation. Most young designers are not comfortable discussing money, but it’s highly advisable that you settle this at the beginning, get paid at least 50% before starting a work and as due diligence finish it.
